Norway
[OCTOBER 17 - NOVEMBER 10]
WHERE WILL WE BE?
In Norway, we will be flying into Stavanger, Norway, and then visiting the island of Finnøy for about a week. Next, we will be visiting the island of Stord. We will then leave the west coast and take a bus to Telemark. After a week on our first WWOOF farm there, we will be finishing up our trip in Oslo, Norway.
WHAT GROWS THERE?
The main crops that grow in Norway include a variety of grains (barley, wheat, oats, etc.), potatoes, and livestock (sheep, cattle, hogs) for meat and dairy.
What is their climate like?
Norway's climate can very a lot due to their rugged topography, just as their land usage does as you can see in the picture to the left. Their winters are very frigid with lows ranging from 5-30°F, and their summers are pleasantly warm with averages ranging in the 50's and 60's. Their average yearly rainfall is 56 inches per year. The biomes that thrive in this climate include grasslands, forests, deserts, aquatic and tundra.
WHERE ARE WE WWOOFING?
RINGESTÅGA
This mountain farm, located near Dalen, Norway, will be hosting us on our journey from October 24th through November 6. Ringeståga has cows, cat, chickens, horses, rabbits, dogs, bees, ducks, pigs, sheep, and fish. They also grow grains, potatoes, carrots, salad, onions, tomatoes, and apples. Firewood heats the farm during the winter months. Lisa Høstberger and her family are folk musicians. Since 2013, they have been welcoming WWOOFers to the farm who share their values and interests, want to enjoy long hard working days and lots of learning, and have a charming social life.
