KOH TAO

12.19.16: Journey to Koh Tao

It took us an overnight train ride, a bus, and a ferry from Bangkok to get to the island of Koh Tao! After the long journey, we were extremely happy to grab some food by the beach, set up our hammocks, and have a rest. That night, I started my PADI open water diving course! I was busy with that for the next 3 days and thus did not have time to capture the immense beauty of the island that I was experiencing during this time. The second picture here is of my fermented pineapple drink exploding at the train station! As I tried to carefully open the drink, the lid flew up into the air as the drink bubbled over and released all the pressure from the fermentation. The loud pop sounded almost like a gun, and after being stunned for awhile, we both started laughing. We were lucky this happened outside and not inside the train, bus, or ferry!

12.21.16 day three diving

12.22.16 final day diving

During the final day of the PADI diving course, I did two open water dives that reached a depth of 18 meters. My awesome instructor, Mario, was kind enough to let me bring Peder's GoPro on these dives! I got some amazing footage and cannot wait to share it with everyone. However, this footage will be in a later post.

12.24.16: Mango bay hike & christmas eve

Today we hiked with two of our friends, Sam and Lina, to Mango Bay. The hike was steep and the weather was quite warm, but when we got to the top and across to the bay it was worth it. We met two other friends there and then after a swim took a boat taxi back to the main pier. For Christmas eve, we went out to a wonderful dinner and then hung out on the beach and ended up meeting other very cool friends. The day we took a ferry, bus, and night train back to Bangkok and then flew out to Melbourne!
